DA' HELL HAPPENED #6: WWE Monday Night RAW, May 23, 2016
Welcome to another edition of "Da' Hell Happened" featuring the review of WWE Monday Night RAW.
Seth Rollins opened the show with a returning speech. He criticized the WWE Universe for booing him after he turned on his Shield's teammates, and now they are cheering for him. WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns interrupted Rollins, as "The Man" retrieved, and Shane McMahon came out to reveal that Reigns will defend the WWE World Heavyweight Title against Seth Rollins at Money In The Bank. I just hope no one gets injured until the PPV. This match has been a long time coming, after Reigns got injured before he could face Rollins at Battleground 2014, and Rollins got injured before he could defend his title against Reigns at Survivor Series 2015.
Sami Zayn Vs. Sheamus - Money In The Bank Qualifying Match
Sami looked really good in this match. The Fatal Four Way helped elevate "The Underdog from the Underground". Zayn qualified for the Money In The Bank ladder match after knocking Sheamus out with a Helluva Kick. After the match, Sheamus showed his ire, and went to the backstage only to attack Apollo Crews from behind during an interview with Renee Young. Sheamus is sick of the new era.
WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day Vs. Social Outcasts
A cake is in the ring, as The New Day make their way to the ring. They say it's a special celebration, as it was the 1200th episode of RAW. Then, they threated people in the front, JBL and Byron Saxton with the cake, only to be attacked by The Social Outcasts.
In quick fashion, the Tag Team Champions were victorious, and Heath Slater ate the cake.
Intercontinental Champion The Miz Vs. Cesaro - Money In The Bank Qualifying Match
Before the match started, The Miz and Maryse cut a promo about Miz retaining the IC Title Sunday at Extreme Rules, and how his future is bright, as he heads towards Money In The Bank victory. Cesaro interrupted the champion, and after a hard-hitting contest that both men delivered so well, Cesaro hit the "Neutralizer" on Miz to qualify for the Money In The Bank Ladder Match. There was just something missing at the end: a mention to the fact that Cesaro had just defeated the Intercontinental Champion. A big missing point for a future final confrontation between both competitors after Money In The Bank was corrected after WWE announced, before the main event between Styles and Owens, that Cesaro will face Miz for the title Thursday on SmackDown.
Chris Jericho Vs. Apollo Crews - Money In The Bank Qualifying Match
Jericho completely bandaged in the back was a horrific view. Apollo was clearly in pain after being attacked by Sheamus. Well, not really. He didn't sell the attack during the entrance, nor during the match. Also a little botch in the middle with the Lion Sault being executed, and Crews missing the spot didn't favour this match. It was supposed for him to get up, and he didn't get out of the way. Jericho sealed the match with a "Codebreaker", qualifying for the Money In The Bank Ladder Match. In the end, Sheamus laughed at Crews backstage, clearly igniting a new feud.
Big Cass Vs. Bubba Ray Dudley
Enzo Amore is back! The king of promos has returned to accompany his partner to his match. He is without a doubt the best talker in WWE right now. And he is goddamn entertaining.
The Dudley Boyz and Enzo & Cass need a longer feud, one that gets a good booking, giving them time to develop something special. Enzo & Cass are newcomers and need to impress, and the Dudleyz need to recuperate the legendary status they once shared. In the end, Big Cass defeated Bubba with the "Empire Elbow".
Charlotte's WWE Women's Championship Celebration
The enforcer, the creepy old father and the cheating champion. Now that's a team!
Useless segment in terms of answering our questions as to why Dana helped Charlotte retain the title at Extreme Rules. It appears that she decided to side with the winning team, but that's not an explanation good enough.
However, Charlotte finally splitted with her father. What a segment she performed! A near perfect promo, as Charlotte nailed that segment like it was easy to execute. The champion made her father cry by calling him "the 2nd Dirtiest Player in the Game", blaming him for the previous hard 30 years of her life for being his daughter. She added he was dead to her, completely disowning him. What a heart-breaking moment. She then forced him to leave the ring, and the official replacement was set, as Dana is now the one playing Ric Flair. The Nature Boy is on his way to the exit.
Dean Ambrose Vs. Dolph Ziggler - Money In The Bank Qualifying Match
Quick match. "Dirty Deeds" won Ambrose a place in the Money In The Bank Ladder Match. Baron Corbin could have been a decisive factor in the match, but he wasn't.
AJ Styles Vs. Kevin Owens - Money In The Bank Qualifying Match
Before the match started, Styles cut a promo saying Reigns has earned his respect. He then blamed The Usos, Anderson & Gallows for not winning the title Sunday. He added he now has another opportunity, as he looks to go on and win Money In The Bank. Anderson & Gallows interrupted "The Phenomenal One", before saying Styles changed since he left Japan. Styles said he did not requested their help, and stated this was no longer Japan. Anderson & Gallows said they were done with Styles, and left the ring.
The match was by far the best of the night. Owens won with a Pop-Up Powerbomb, qualifying for the Money In The Bank Ladder Match. A clear victory for Owens gives him great momentum for MITB. He is my pick to win the briefcase, even if there's still two spots available.
