DA' HELL HAPPENED #57: WWE Extreme Rules 2017
Hey everyone and welcome to a very special edition of the "Da' Hell Happened" featuring the review of last night's WWE Extreme Rules PPV. The event itself had a very poor card, and expectations were really low going into this one. So let's see what happened!
RESULTS AND RATES:
The Miz def. Dean Ambrose (C) to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship - 3.5*
Sasha Banks & Rich Swann def. Alicia Fox & Noam Dar - 2.25*
Alexa Bliss (C) def. Bayley to retain the RAW Women's Championship - 2.25*
Cesaro & Sheamus def. Hardy Boyz (C) to win the RAW Tag Team Championships - 2.75*
Neville (C) def. Austin Aries to retain the WWE Cruiserweight Championship - 4*
Samoa Joe won the Fatal 5-Way Extreme Rules match - 4.5*
MATCH OF THE NIGHT: Fatal 5-Way Extreme Rules match
Oh my lord. Back and forth this match went, and I was crazy when it ended. 5 of the top superstars, not only on RAW, but in the whole WWE, squared off in the first ever Fatal 5-Way Extreme Rules match to determine the new #1 contender for Brock Lesnar's WWE Universal Championship, and boy oh boy did they deliver. The match had a very high pace the entire time. I was a bit disappointed that, more than 15 minutes after the start of the match, nothing of extreme came out of the match, but I spoke too soon and quickly Roman Reigns put Finn Bálor and Samoa Joe through the barricade with a Spear, and Seth Rollins landed on Bray Wyatt on top of the commentary table. Needless to say, these guys had a lot of time to work the match, so they couldn't be extreme the whole time, and I completely understand that. Seeing Samoa Joe win the match gives me goosebumps giving the fact Joe is, talking size, one of the few guys on the roster that can match Brock Lesnar, and this is an absolute dream match to me. "Great Balls of Fire", your name sucks, but your main event doesn't!
MVP OF THE NIGHT (Honorable Mentions):
WWE Cruiserweight Champion Neville: Coming out of 3 consecutive victories over Austin Aries in WWE PPV's, and successfully defending his WWE Cruiserweight Championship, Neville had another amazing match with Aries, and once again proved why he is the true "King of the Cruiserweights". Definitely one of the best stars on the roster today, and the true savior of the Cruiserweight division. Neville, you got my praise.
MVP OF THE NIGHT: Samoa Joe
Without any doubt, Samoa Joe comes off this night as the biggest winner. He went into Extreme Rules as the only man of the five to have never won a World Title in WWE (I consider the Universal Title a World Title in the WWE), and left with an opportunity to challenge the "Beast Incarnate" for the Universal Championship at Great Balls of Fire. The monster push he was rumoured to receive right after debuting on the main roster is just kicking off!
DA' HELL HAPPENED MOMENT OF THE SHOW: Booking of Bayley
I'm one of those die-hard NXT fans that lived the amazing era of Bayley as the NXT Women's Champion. Bayley was the top girl down in NXT, and few could argue she was one of the best in the entire WWE. But the "main roster" disease struck her, and after winning the title with a very poor booking and effort from the Creative Team, she was completely buried in her feud with Alexa Bliss. I'm not against her not revealing an extreme side of her, but WWE could have made so much better if they wanted. It's a shame she goes down like this, after her amazing NXT run. She was one of those characters that you believed in, and at the same time any person from any generation could like her and be with her.
And with this I wrap up the Extreme Rules "Da' Hell Happened" edition. Tomorrow I will be back for the recap of RAW, as we have a new Intercontinental Champion, new RAW Tag Team Champions, and a brand new #1 contender for Brock Lesnar's WWE Universal Championship! See you there!
