DA' HELL HAPPENED #50: WWE SmackDown Live - May 2nd, 2017

Hey everyone and welcome to a very special edition of "Da' Hell Happened" featuring the review of last night's SmackDown Live. This is a very special edition of DHH because it is the 50th edition of the main article in my show, and the main way for me to express my opinions about the current product in the WWE. So without further a do let's roll!

RESULTS:

Jinder Mahal def. Sami Zayn
Tye Dillinger def. Aiden English
Carmella & Natalya def. Naomi & Charlotte Flair
Dolph Ziggler def. Sin Cara
Kevin Owens def. Chris Jericho (C) to win the United States Championship

Shane McMahon, then-United States Champion Chris Jericho, AJ Styles and also Kevin Owens kicked off SmackDown LIVE.

MATCH OF THE NIGHT: Chris Jericho vs. Kevin Owens for the United States Championship

As the main event of the blue brand's show this week, we had a United States Championship match between Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho. Jericho and Owens are two superstars that are new to the SmackDown brand, thanks to the Superstar Shake-up, and seeing both battle for the US Title was a good breath of fresh air for SmackDown LIVE and for its fans. It was known that Chris Jericho was about to leave the company for some time to enter a tour with his band, Fozzy, and at Payback no one believed Jericho would walk out of San Jose with the United States Championship. I think that the booking at Payback served in two ways: to force the fans to not feel some results as so predictable, and to give Chris Jericho a run on SmackDown LIVE after he's done with his band. It's sad to see him leave, even if it's only for some months, but being the hottest act in sports entertainment makes fans feel like that when that act is leaving for a while.

In a rematch from Payback, Chris Jericho defended his United States Championship against the former champion Kevin Owens.

MVP OF THE NIGHT (Honorable Mentions):

Jinder Mahal: Once again, "The Maharaja" as overcome another challenge, this time against such a superstar like Sami Zayn. Jinder is getting ready for his WWE Championship match, and he is getting ready in the correct way. His stable with the Singh Brothers is something WWE has never seen as a successful stable, so it's interesting and it will be interesting to see what they do moving towards Backlash.

"The Welcoming Commitee" of Carmella, Tamina and Natalya: Setting a position and not accepting that Charlotte Flair comes from RAW and gets title shots. They are the "Welcoming Commitee" and they are welcoming Charlotte Flair to SmackDown LIVE. Three women that needed momentum and needed feuds to work, are now ruling the Women's division on the blue brand. Definitely winners of the night.

"The Welcoming Commitee" laid waste to SmackDown Women's Champion Naomi, Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch.

MVP OF THE NIGHT: Kevin Owens

With Chris Jericho leaving WWE for a while, it was logical that he would put over Kevin Owens, and boy oh boy did he do that. Owens viciously attacked Jericho in every sense of the word, and took Y2J's United States Championship, setting a match down the road at Backlash with the "Phenomenal" AJ Styles. The winner of the night was the new "Face of America", now the United States Champion and one of the faces of SmackDown LIVE.

Kevin Owens defeated Chris Jericho and became a 2-time United States Champion.

DA' HELL HAPPENED MOMENT OF THE SHOW: Aiden English... crying?

Uhm, what the hell? You book a superstar to be a crying baby? When he could have a great character as a singer, just like he did in his early days in NXT? Ah man, I don't accept this. What the hell?

When you're still jobbing after leaving your tag team.

And with this I finish this week's final Da' Hell Happened. Next week I will be back for more two editions, with the review of RAW and SmackDown LIVE, as we head towards the blue brand's exclusive PPV, WWE Backlash. See you there!
