DA' HELL HAPPENED #54: WWE SmackDown LIVE - May 16th, 2017
Hey everyone and welcome to the unbelievable review of this week's SmackDown LIVE on another edition of "Da' Hell Happened". There's not much to talk about this week's SmackDown because it was the final show before Backlash, so basically it was just a show that saw adjustments and final developments on feuds and the matches at Backlash. Still, we had a Highlight Reel!! So let's roll!
RESULTS:
Kevin Owens hosted "The Highlight Reel"
Jinder Mahal def. AJ Styles (??)
Breezango def. The Colons
Contract signing for the Six-Woman Tag Team match at WWE Backlash
Carmella def. Naomi
Randy Orton def. Baron Corbin
MATCH OF THE NIGHT: AJ Styles vs. Jinder Mahal
Although the result didn't satisfy many people (and we'll discuss that below), this was the best contested match of the night. When Styles says he goes out there every night just to have the best match possible, he means it. It doesn't matter who his opponent is, whether it is a great wrestler like Sami Zayn, or a less oiled (not literally) wrestler like Jinder Mahal, he steals the show with that man.
MVP OF THE NIGHT: Jinder Mahal
Not an established guy, nor got a build-up before getting to the top of SmackDown LIVE, but his booking shows him being an unstoppable freak of nature, and a man that poses a threat to Randy Orton's WWE Championship. In the beginning of the night, beat AJ Styles. Later the night, laid waste to WWE Champion Randy Orton. Oh god. On Friday, I will upload a video to YouTube discussing if Mahal stands a chance against Orton at Backlash, so don't forget to check out the link here before 7pm EST on Friday!
DA' HELL HAPPENED MOMENT OF THE SHOW: Jinder Mahal defeats AJ Styles and Rusev is no where to be found
In 54 editions of "Da' Hell Happened", this is the first time ever that I name more than 1 "Da' Hell Happened Moment" for a single show. One is just an observation, the other is a negative critic.
The observation is the fact that JINDER MAHAL DEFEATED AJ STYLES ON SMACKDOWN LIVE! That's right, "The Maharaja" defeated "The Phenomenal One". Even though Kevin Owens interfered in the match, the history books will forever say that on the May 16th edition of SmackDown LIVE, JINDER FUCKIN' MAHAL DEFEATED AJ FUCKIN' STYLES. I'm in shock.
The negative critic is the fact that Rusev was no where to be found on SmackDown LIVE when everyone was expecting (and excited) to see him back in WWE. Rusev then wrote on Twitter:
